Sylvain Poitras is an international healthtech lawyer, strategist and negotiator with a track record of achievements with, and for, leading listed US medtech groups, SMEs and early stage entrepreneurs, including Medtronic, IBM, Cardinal Health and CareFusion (now part of BD).

Qualified as an attorney-at-law in the US (NY) and Canada (Quebec), Sylvain holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in health-sector management from Harvard University.

Sylvain totals some 20 years of hands-on international experience out of Geneva and has worked on country-based matters in tens of countries worldwide, leading and bringing to closure a large number of assignments. As a result of his several years as in-house legal counsel, he is used to be the client of outside providers and knows how important it is to provide advice that is focused and actionable in practice. 

In addition to legal leadership roles driving support to entire business lines internationally with annual sales of hundreds of millions of US dollars, Sylvain has been active in commercial operations at various levels, including business development, product development, sourcing, fundraising, multicountry product launches, marketing and sales strategies and large scale legal and commercial negotiations with private and public players. Sylvain works in English and French.

Sylvain developed a new university course on the European medical technology oversight system  (CE-marking, innovation, contracting practices, compliance)  which he has taught annually since 2010 at two universities:

  • EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), a world leading medtech R&D powerhouse repeatedly ranked amongst the top universities in Europe;
  • University of Neuchâtel, home to the Swiss Health Law Institute.
